Beginners Yoga with Guangyu
September 19 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
The popularity of Guangyu’s Introduction to Yoga class inspired us to continue with a beginners level of yoga that provides each week gentle instruction on the various aspects of yoga postures, yoga philosophy and lifestyle. Guangyu combines the hatha style of gently holding yoga postures and the vinyasa style of linking breath and movement that leaves plenty of time for exploring and feeling the postures. Each class begins with breath exercises (pranayama) and ends with a brief period of meditation/reflection.
About the Instructor: Guangyu Tan
Guangyu Tan started yoga in 2001, and until 2018 yoga was just another form of exercise. But in 2018, she was diagnosed with depression and yoga became a self-healing practice. She pursued her 200-hour yoga teacher training as a self-discovery, and totally fell in love with yoga philosophy. She also recently completed additional training in Restorative Yoga with Cyndi Lee. For her, yoga is a way of living. In her teaching, she focuses on mindful movement of the body, breathing, self-discovery and self-healing. Besides yoga, she is also an avid marathon runner. She has completed one full marathon (26.2 miles) in 2103 and 9 half marathons since 2012.
Outside of the yoga studios, Guangyu is known as Dr. Tan. She earned her Ph.D. in Cultural Foundations of Education at Kent State University in May 2009. She has taught as a Diversity Teaching Fellow at Canisius College from 2007 to 2010. In 2011, Dr. Tan began teaching at SUNY Fredonia and is currently the College of Education Department Chair.
